TAMARA HUILMAND was born in Breda, in the Southwest of Holland, in 1961. She has studied at Rotterdam’s Dance Academy. After her graduation in the mid 80’s, she created (and performed in) more than a dozen performances that were regularly presented in Holland and Belgium: ‘Chihuahua’, ‘Schuurvlak’, ‘Ons bed is de boot’, ‘Number 101 – your time is up’, and ‘Slaap Zacht’, etc.
TAMARA HUILMAND aimed at a sort of "reality within dance". Within the years, her performing language, became more and more theatrical, and she felt herself no longer only as a choreographer, but more as a theatremaker. In the beginning her performances were focused on female behaviour and hidden areas behind female patterns. Later on, the lack of communication and denial among people, as well as the wish for harmony and our common inability to achieve this, showed up as important themes in her work.

TAMARA HUILMAND based her works on intuition and usually she would let herself be inspired by the people that she worked with… Usually, her works would turn out to be direct, intensive, sometimes even aggressive but always intimate and people would describe it as ‘personal and honest’
